Comedy Scenes for 2 Men
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

by Tom Stoppard

In this abstract play, we see what all the characters of Hamlet are doing when they are not on the stage of Shakespeare's famous play.  R & G are famously sent by Hamlet to England to receive the death sentence meant for Hamlet.  But, in this scene, they play a game of "questions."  This scene may be tricky to memorize but definitely worth it in comic effect.

The Star Spangled Girl

by Neil Simon

In the radical 1960s, roommates and business partners Andy and Norman run a political underground news magazine.  Andy is the business brain, Norman creates the content.  Their business is disrupted now because Norman has a crush on a very patriotic Olympic swimming hopeful that has moved into the apartment upstairs.  His "secret admirer" tactics are annoying to both Andy and the neighbor Sophie.

The Odd Couple

by Neil Simon

Gruff sloppy divorced sports writer is having his poker night with the boys disrupted by his friend Felix.  Felix has just been kicked out of his house by his wife and needs a place to stay.  They are friends but complete opposites.  This scene is a fight toward the end of the play.  It is important to remember this play was written as a mainstream comedy in the 1960s.  They are not gay.  The reference to a "marriage" is ironic and played for laughs because the men are obviously straight and gay marriage was not a thing then.  There are several ways to cut the scene.

The Nerd

by Larry Shue

Willam's life was saved during the Vietnam war by a soldier named Rick Steadman whom Willam never met.  Until one day, Rick asks to visit and he seems intent to stay permanently.  Rick is a nerd.  In other words, kind of dumb, really annoying and completely disruptive to Willam's life.  In this scene, Willam is trying to ask Rick to leave.  But there is no nice way to say it that Rick can even understand.  In the meantime, Rick has altered the architectural plans that Willam has been working on to include a hold with a cigarette poked through it for a chimney.
