What is Shrek Dual Language Version
Join our unlikely hero, Shrek, and his hilarious, chatty sidekick Donkey as they embark on an unforgettable adventure in a magical kingdom far, far away!
This is just like the Broadway Stage Musical based on the 2001 animated movie. Only difference: it is a little shorter and all the characters alternate speaking both Spanish and English.
Participating in theater is such a valuable experience, the authors of this beloved story want to make sure that anyone can participate regardless of background or language spoken. East high will be one of the first schools in the country to perform this show. Our notes and experiences will help shape the script and score for future productions. This will be an amazing experience.
Experience the beloved story, the catchy songs, and the heartwarming message of acceptance in a whole new way! Our dual language edition seamlessly weaves together English and Spanish dialogue and lyrics, creating a unique and accessible theatrical experience for everyone. Whether you speak one language or both, you'll laugh, you'll sing, and you'll discover that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder... ¡y el oído también!
¡Te esperamos! We can't wait to see you there!

FAQ (frequently asked questions)
Will anybody be able to understand what’s going on? Especially if they don’t speak both languages?
YES!!!!! Each character moves fluidly between languages throughout the play so that everybody will get some of the words in their own language. And they will get the rest from context and the actions of the story. What an exciting community-building experience it will be for Spanish speakers and English speakers to enjoy the same performance together.
If I do this, does that mean I’m studying to be a professional actor?
The skills of theater apply to NEARLY EVERY JOB. Ask your teachers. You will be surprised how many of them got comfortable teaching by being in theater. It helps you with job interviews, presentations, interactions with other people, so many other things you need to be successful within and outside of the performing arts.
However, you could! Actors and people who have acting skills are needed in plays, movies, television and commercials – but also in sales, presentations, management, education and many more. There are more jobs related to acting then there are related to playing sports. So, it’s just as valuable thing to do while you are a student.
Do I have to speak both languages in order to be in the play?
No. But you will learn. All characters speak and sing in some English and some Spanish. You may not understand all the lines and lyrics immediately but we will teach you the correct ways to pronounce them and they will eventually make sense to you. This will be a fun way and supportive environment to improve your language abilities…or to learn a whole new language!
Will this be cast by race or language ability?
No. We will cast the best actors and singers regardless of race or native language. That has always been the case!
